Liberia seeks explanation into shooting of citizens in Turkey

The Liberian government is seeking explanation from the Turkish government about the recent shooting in Turkey of four Liberian nationals.

The four Liberians were reportedly shot by unknown gunmen at a coffee shop in Istanbul on April 4.

A statement issued by the West African country's foreign ministry in Monrovia, the nation's capital on Friday, said the Liberian government, which has no formal diplomatic ties with Turkey, has sent a diplomatic note to the Turkish Embassy in Ghana seeking explanation into the shooting.

The statement said information received from its diplomatic representative in Turkey, Ambassador-at-large Anacleto Salciccia has it that two of the victims have been discharged from hospital, while one of them underwent a minor surgery on April 8.

The fourth victim was also expected to undergo surgery in Istanbul.

The diplomatic representative told the Liberian government that Turkish police have begun investigation into the shooting to bring the shooters to justice.
