South Africa's Parliament said on Saturday it has built a bust of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela to mark 20 years of freedom.

The unveiling will take place on April 28, the country's Freedom Day, Parliament said.

"Parliament's decision to commission the bust and to erect it on the precinct at this time was motivated by the desire to commemorate our 20 years of a democratic Parliament, our democratic state and our first democratically elected President," a Parliament statement said.

Parliament will also use the occasion of the unveiling to provide details of its program to commemorate 20 years of a democratic Parliament.
