President Jacob Zuma vowed on Saturday to take over the Western Cape Province from the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA).

If the ANC was given a chance to govern the Western Cape, the province would be a better place, Zuma told a rally at a stadium in Athlone, Cape Town.

The Western Cape is the only province governed by the DA. The other eight provinces are administered by the African National Congress (ANC) led by Zuma.

The May 7 elections will see the ANC and the DA vying for control of the Western Cape, the DA's stronghold.

Once elected, the ANC will address issues of evictions, water and electricity cuts as well as housing issues that the governing DA is allegedly not attending to, Zuma said.
