Chinese pair triumphs in Modern Pentathlon World Cup mixed relay in Hungary

The Chinese pair of Bian Yufei and Cai Zhaohong won the mixed relay with 1492 points overall on Monday at the 2014 Modern Pentathlon World Cup meet in Kecskemet, Hungary on the final day of the competition.

Bian and Cai gained 250 points in fencing for first place, another 353 points in swimming for first place, and 290 points in riding for fifth place. At this point they led the pack on points and were the first starters in the combined event (running and shooting).

They held that first place to the end winning overall as their eighth place (11:41.65) in the combined brought them an additional 599 points to win the meet with 1492 points.

Lucie Grolichova, World Cup winner in 2006, and Ondrej Polivka, (gold medallist in the European Championships in 2009, of the Czech Republic were second with 1465 points total. They received 250 points in fencing, tying them with the Chinese pair for first place, 340 points in swimming for sixth place, and 293 in riding for third place putting them 10 points behind Bian and Cai.

They were the second to start in the combined event, and their time (11:58.15) yielded 582 points, putting them 11th but good for second place overall with 1465 points.

Lithuania's Lina Batuleviciute and Justinas Kinderis came in third with 1453 points.

Hungarians Sarolta Kovacs and Bence Demeter came in fourth with 1452 points, while Isabella Isaksen and Nathan Schrimsher of the United States were fifth with 1451 points and Claudia Cesarini and Pierpaolo Petroni of Italy were sixth with 1439 points.
