Xu Jiayu sets another new national record in National Swimming Championships

Zhejiang's Xu Jiayu became the hottest swimmer after setting his second national record in men's 50m backstroke at the Chinese National Swimming Championship and also Asian Games Qualification here on Tuesday.

Xu clocked 24.58 seconds, world's third best of this year for the trophy. Sun Xiaolei of Shanghai placed second in 25.40, and the bronze medal went to Lin Yongqing of Liaoning, who finished with 25.74 seconds.

"I has expected it (breaking national record), but I managed to keep cool during the match," said Xu. "Now I feel more confident for the Asian Games."

Ye Shiwen, who claimed two gold medals in women's 200m and 400m individual medley of the 2012 Olympic Games, finished fourth in 100m freestyle with 54.73 seconds.

Winner Shen Duo of Jiangsu clocked 54.15 seconds. Shanghai's Tang Yi and Jiangsu's Zhang Yufei got the second and third places in 54.18 and 54.51 respectively.

"I tried my best, and never thought how fast I can swim," said Shen.

Lu Ying, 2013 world championships' runner-up, shrugged off her shoulder injury to be crowned in women's 50m butterfly in 25.94 seconds. Silver medalist Liu Lan of Chinese Army and bronze medalist Zhang Yufei of Jiangsu clocked 26.39 and 26.46 respectively.

Jiao Liuyang, 200m butterfly champion in London Olympic Games, got the fifth place in 26.74 but showed satisfaction with her performance.

"I once targeted at a result within 27 seconds because of lack of speed. So I feel good about it," said Jiao.

Wang Shun of Zhejiang claimed the title in men's 200m individual medley in 1:57.99. Jiangsu's Shi Jinglin got her second gold medal in this tournament in women's 200m breaststroke on 2:22.90. Zhejiang won men's 4X 200m freestyle relay in 7:16.01.
