Zhejiang's Xu Jiayu kept his hot momentum to claim the third national record and gold medal, while Guangdong's Yu Hexin clinched his second gold medal in men's short-distance freestyle at the Chinese National Swimming Championships here on Friday.
Xu clocked 1:55.11 in men's 200 meters backstroke, 0.48 seconds ahead of the previous record, and it's also the third world best result of this year.
Xu's teammates Li Guangyuan and Shi Yi were placed second and third.
"I had not expected for breaking the national record. My hard work has paid off," Xu said.
Japanese Ryosuke Irie is the fastest this year in 1:53.91, and his compatriot Kosuke Hagino ranks second with 1:54.23.
Now Xu has his sight on the Asian Games scheduled to kick off four months later, where he has much possibility of meeting with Irie and Hagino.
"I have confidence in 50 meters and 100 meters backstroke," he said.
Yu won in the men's 100 meters freestyle with 49.25 seconds. Hebei's Hao Yun got the silver medal with 0.42 seconds behind. Jiangsu's Xu Qiheng and Beijing's Liu Zhaochen shared the bronze with 49.91 seconds.
National Games champion Ning Zetao was absent due to injury.
"I feel a little bit lucky as Ning is absent. If he were here, the match would be more attractive," said Yu.
Xin Xin of Shandong was crowned in women' s 800 meters freestyle in 8:25.35, the world's sixth best of this year. The second and third places went to Bi Yirong of Zhejiang and Xu Danlu of Ningxia.
In other three events, Shanghai's Shi Yang won in men's 50 meters butterfly in 23.94 seconds. Suo Ran of Chinese Navy topped women' s 50 meters breaststroke in 31.57 seconds.
