Law enforcement officers from Shenzhen Market Supervision and Administration Bureau delivered a punishment notice on Tuesday with a hefty fine of 260 million yuan ($41.67 million) to Shenzhen QVOD Technology Co for allegedly featuring pornographic material, news portal qq.com reported.
Shenzhen QVOD Technology Co is the owner of one of China's most popular video player software.
The management was absent when the notice was delivered, qq.com reported, noting that the company still has 7 days to appeal for a review, which means the final sum may vary from the figure on the punishment notice.
Shenzhen-based QVOD Technology Co was found to be "spreading lewd and pornographic content," the official Xinhua News Agency reported on March 15, citing the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.
