Vice President Joseph Biden on Wednesday reaffirmed US commitment to its rebalance to Asia on political, security and economic fronts.

Biden highlighted US efforts to "deepen its engagement" with Asia on the three fronts when meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the White House, the White House said in a statement.

The pair discussed a range of bilateral, regional and global issues, with Biden thanking Lee for Singapore's leadership in "shaping a more peaceful and prosperous Southeast Asia," the White House said.

"The two leaders discussed mutual concerns over a pattern of destabilizing behavior in the South China Sea and reiterated their mutual interest in international law, freedom of navigation, and the peaceful resolution of maritime and territorial disputes," the White House added.

The two leaders met amid growing tension over maritime disputes in the South China Sea. China has made it clear that it encourages dialogue and consultation to resolve disputes in the Asia-Pacific region, but will not waver in its determination to safeguard national interests.

On the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations involving the United States, Singapore and 10 other countries, Biden and Lee agreed to work together to finalize an "ambitious, high-standard agreement" as soon as possible.

Biden underscored the importance of "working to establish new rules of the road" to meet the world's economic needs in the 21st century, the White House said.
