The mainland Taiwan affairs chief on Saturday urged more cross-Straits communication, especially among ordinary citizens.
Zhang Zhijun, chief of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks while meeting with Taichung Mayor Jason Hu.
Zhang said that both sides have benefited from the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and Taichung has carried out various communications with mainland cities.
"Taichung is a famous historic and cultural city with specific city constructions especially in cultural creative industry,"
Zhang said. "We all felt the efforts made by Taichung people through the scenes along the route in the city."
During the meeting, Hu briefed Zhang on the city's economic, social and cultural development and accompanied him to a social welfare center.
