A Beijing realtor has created a database that tells potential buyers whether someone has died inside a house to order to avoid legal disputes.
The unnamed real estate agency listed more than 900 properties for sale or rent in Beijing, where someone was either murdered, committed suicide or died of dubious circumstances in the past, media reported Tuesday.
"Chinese feel conflicted about these kinds of houses and would not be willing to buy them," said Xu Donghua, a manager at the agency.
The database covers more than 4,000 Beijing residential communities and sources its information from media reports, on-site investigations and verified police records, according to the real estate agency.
Realtors explained that sellers often do not disclose the history of "stigmatized properties" to either agents or buyers - until it is too late.
This result in early termination of contracts, resulting in financial loss and diminished professional reputation, the agency claimed.
