Greek authorities have been put on alert this week over a suspected Ebola case which eventually turned out to be malaria, according to the Health Ministry Friday.

A man who recently traveled to Greece from Libya was hospitalized with symptoms of the lethal virus in an Athens hospital.

The tests eventually showed that he suffered from malaria, as another patient who recently arrived in Greece from Nigeria.

The Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa which has caused more than 1,000 deaths has raised the alarm worldwide.

Greece's national Center of Disease Control and Prevention has advised the Greeks to avoid travels in the area if not absolutely necessary.
