The Confederation of African Athletes (CAA) has selected two Zambian athletes to be in a team that will represent the continent at the Inter-Continental Championships to be staged in Morocco in September, the Times of Zambia reported on Wednesday.
The continental athletes' body has selected Kabange Mupopo and Saviour Kombe to be in the African team after their splendid performance at the just-ended Senior African Championships held in Morocco.
Mupopo won a silver medal in the women's 400 meters after running 51.21 seconds to finish 1.1 seconds behind Folashade Abugan of Nigeria while Kombe minted bronze when he finished fourth in the 400 meters race but acquired a new personal time of 45.27.
Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) president Elias Mpondela expressed delight at the impressive performance of the athletes at various international games and championships.
"We did not reap as many medals as anticipated, but it is clear that our Strategic Focus and Implementation Plan launched in 2012 in partnership with German Sports Cooperation Program and Olympic Youth Development Center, has begun to produce results,"
he was quoted as saying by the paper.
