Velimir Stjepanovic, double gold medal winner at the 32nd LEN European Swimming Championships, said on Friday that it was a sweet feeling to be faster than world record holder Paul Biedermann.
Stjepanovic, who visited the governement building on Friday and met Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic and sports minister Vanja Udovicic, won the 400 meters freestyle on Aug. 18 and the 200 meters freestyle race on Aug. 20, managing to outswim the world and European record holder from Germany.
"When I entered the finals I somehow knew I had great chances of winning gold," Stjepanovic said.
Stepanovic, 21, jumped to fame by winning the 200m and 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly at the 2013 Mediterranean Games.
Stjepanovic revealed that in 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro he will attempt to qualify for three disciplines.
Serbian PM Vucic said that Stjepanovic represents a "new face of Serbia that is full of confidence, modesty and always reaches to be No. 1."
