Buoyed by the success and popularity of the hockey 5s event at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, Leandro Negre, the president of the Federation of International Hockey (FIH), said Wednesday that hockey's governing body is looking at the possibility of introducing a hockey 5s World Cup in the near future.

Negre is in Nanjing for the finals of the inaugural men's and women's hockey 5s competition and he said the new format has helped smaller non-hockey playing nations to embrace the sport like never before.

He said that it's too early to decide whether the new format could replace the 11-a-side format held at the Olympic Summer Games.
