Czech Republic sent its final shipment of 250 tons of machine gun ammunition to Kurds in Iraq on Wednesday, Czech general staff spokeswoman Jana Ruzickova said.
Ruzickova said four flights of the Globemaster C-17 aircraft of the Canadian military transported eight million rounds of machine gun ammunition in total. The Kurds are yet to receive another 250 tons of ammunition for different arms, but the decision on how it will be transported has not yet been made.
The Kurds are to receive 10 million rounds of ammunition for Kalashnikov assault rifles, eight million rounds for machine guns and 5,000 for rocket-propelled grenades along with 5,000 hand grenades -- 500 tons of military material in total.
The Czech government decided to donate the ammunition worth 41 million crowns (2 million US dollars) to the Iraqi Kurds in August.
