Mexican fighter Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has pulled out of a planned December 6 fight against Joshua Clottey to recover from a nagging ankle injury, Golden Boy Promotions said Monday.
The fight would have marked Alvarez's move to US cable telecaster HBO after his jump from rival Showtime.
"Due to a persistent ankle injury, Canelo Alvarez must withdraw from his December 6 bout," said Golden Boy, the company run by former Mexican-American champion Oscar de la Hoya.
Since dropping a 12-round decision to Floyd Mayweather in September of 2013, former light middleweight world champion Alvarez has posted a 10th-round technical knockout of Alfredo Angulo in March and emerged with a split decision victory over Erislandy Lara in July to take his record to 44-1-1.
