The Chinese city of Hangzhou will host the 2018 short-course World Swimming Championships, world governing body FINA confirmed Tuesday.
The capital city of East China's Zhejiang Province beat bids from the Peruvian capital Lima and the United Arab Emirates in a vote made ahead of this year's event in Doha from December Wednesday to Sunday.
The city is the hometown of Chinese star Luo Xuejuan, the 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 100 meters breaststroke.
"This is a dream that has come true," she said. "My hometown is Hangzhou and I always hoped that one day we could be able to organize a world championships in the most beautiful city in China."
