Greek convict Nikos Romanos ended a 31-day hunger strike on Wednesday after a legislative amendment on the terms for prisoners' educational leave was endorsed by the assembly.
Nikos Romanos was sentenced to 16 years in prison for an armed bank robbery in Velvento in northern Greece in February 2013. The 21-year-old went on a hunger strike and demanded a furlough to study at university.
On Wednesday, the assembly passed a legislative amendment, granting conditional educational leaves for prisoners under an electronic tagging program.
Prisoners will be able to follow studies electronically for the first two months and then be given the green light to attend courses at universities while wearing an electronic bracelet.
