Police in Hengyang, Hunan Province were called to mediate a dispute between one bride and what would have been her husband after she discovered he married another woman on the same day and place as their planned ceremony, media reported Wednesday.

Xiao Qin (pseudonym) waited in her gown for her fiancé Ah Jun (pseudonym) on Friday morning until he texted her to cancel their wedding banquet reservation, wrote Hunan-based news portal rednet.cn.

He told Xiao Qin, his girlfriend of four years, that he had been arrested for brawling and was unable to attend.

However, Xiao Qin's relatives soon discovered Ah Jun was not in jail and instead marrying another woman at the same venue.

Furious, Xiao Qin called police.

Police said Ah Jun's father disapproved of his marriage with Xiao Qin and arranged for him to marry another woman.

Ah Jun had already registered their marriage without Xiao Qin knowing, Hunan Television reported.

Reluctant to end his relationship with Xiao Qin, Ah Jun became desperate. He found two people to impersonate his parents to discuss their marriage with Xiao Qin's parents.

The couple had not yet applied for a marriage certificate, the report added.

Police are still mediating the case.
