China's top political advisory body held a New Year gathering for spouses of late renowned figures as well as national political advisors who were not members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday.
Du Qinglin, vice chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) introduced the achievements made by the CPPCC National Committee in 2014 at the event.
Hailing them as treasures of the CPC and the nation and an important force for promoting the CPPCC cause, Du said he hoped the ladies present at the gathering could provide more valuable advice to help the CPPCC grow.
Among the attendees were Wang Dingguo, widow of Xie Juezai, one of the founders of China's justice system, Xu Huijun, widow of Zhu Guangya, a leading scientist in the country's research and development of nuclear weaponry, and Huang Huanbi, widow of Israel Epstein, a Poland-born veteran journalist and writer.
Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, also attended the gathering.
This year's Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year, falls on Feb. 19.
