We have witnessed several protests against the construction of paraxylene (PX) projects in recent years. Many projects had to be suspended because the public believes that PX is highly toxic. China has been relying on PX imports and the situation is embarrassing. All this shows we need to improve our people's scientific literacy and educate them to make sound judgments on issues.
