Seven Chilean mountain climbers were still unaccounted for by Monday in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake that devastated Nepal on Saturday, Chile's top diplomat said.

"At this time seven Chileans have yet to be located," Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz told a press conference. But he stressed that they are not officially missing, as "we simply have not been able to contact them."

"Of the 56 (Chileans) we have already contacted, the great majority already had tickets to leave (Nepal), so we are on top of the situation," added Munoz.

Most Chileans in Nepal were there to scale Mount Everest, along with about a thousand climbers from other countries.

Chile's consul in New Delhi, Gustavo Cantuarias, traveled to the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu to meet with the Chileans who were caught in the earthquake and provide assistance.

In other Latin American countries, Mexican media reported that the last of 30 Mexicans known to be in Nepal at the time of the temblor finally contacted his family in Mexico early Monday.

Brazil's G1 news website said the country's foreign ministry has identified 96 Brazilians in Nepal, and all have been accounted for.
