German Ambassador to Nepal Matthias Mayer was summoned by Nepal's
Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday over the release of a German national from Nepal's Immigration deportation center, official sources said Wednesday.
An official of the Nepal's immigration department informed that German embassy officials in Kathmandu made attempts to take away Tim Gleber without taking prior consent from the Nepal's authorities. Tim Gleber was, actually, about to be released from the deportation center within a few days.
Nepali government officials were surprised over the German embassy officials' attempt to take away forcefully the German national even without completing required procedures.
Officials from the German embassy reached the Immigration Department and dragged Tim Gleber to the street in capital city Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon.
"After the police officials and local residents' strong opposition, the Germany embassy officials fled from the spot leaving the accused German national," local daily newspaper Annapurna Post reported.
During a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German ambassador apologized regarding the incident, officials said.
The German national was detained by the immigration authorities a few weeks ago when he was found carrying contraband drugs at the Nepal's Tribhuwan International Airport.
