A standard for air pollution alerts and an emergency mechanism will be set up this year in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, The Mirror reported on Tuesday.

A group on air pollution control in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region approved the joint prevention and control work plan on air pollution in the region, with a pilot program in six cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Tangshan, Langfang, Baoding and Cangzhou.

The group said it plans to promote 20,000 new energy automobiles in the public service sector and build 112 charging stations in the region by the end of 2015.

Beijing and Tianjin will offer financial and technical support to the four other cities in Hebei Province to hasten the control of air pollution.
