Wang Jiarui, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Aung San Suu Kyi, chair of Myanmar's National League for Democracy (NLD), in Beijing on Wednesday.
They exchanged views on relations between the two parties.
Wang is vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
It is Suu Kyi's first meeting with Chinese leaders in Beijing. She is on a five-day China trip from Wednesday to Sunday.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner left Yangon for Beijing earlier Wednesday for her first visit to China at the invitation of the CPC.
China hopes this visit will strengthen communication and understanding between both sides and further their friendly cooperation in various fields, said foreign ministry spokesperson Hong Lei.
