Turkish coast guards detained 122 migrants in the Aegean Sea as they attempted to sail to the Greek islands of Lesbos Tuesday.
The semi-official Anatolia News Agency said the migrants were mostly Afghan and Syrian. They remained in dinghies offshore of the Behramkale village of the Ayvacik district.
Rescue crews transported the migrants to their boats and placed them ashore in Kucukkuyu town.
Previously on Monday, coast guards also detained 101 migrants attempting to sail to Lesbos near the coast of Ayvacik in Canakkale province. They were reportedly from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.
The migrants await deportation following legal proceedings and health inspections.
The Aegean Sea is one of the most frequently used routes for migrants attempting to reach EU countries.
