Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann has criticized the German stance that a Greek exit from the eurozone may be the best course of action, according to newspaper Der Standard on Thursday.

He said comments made by German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble have caused some to have the impression that a Greek exit from the eurozone may be useful, as "maybe we then pay less."

Faymann believed this to be wrong, and morally not right, as it could spell the beginning of a collapse.

Faymann also noted that Schaeuble also criticized the leadership role Germany has taken on in Europe in this regard as not "positive."
