Marseille would host the yachting events in 2024 if Paris wins the race to stage the Olympic Games, officials said Monday.

The Mediterranean port city had been in competition with Brest, Le Havre, Hyeres, Morbihan and La Rochelle for the right to organise the boat races, Paris being inland.

The French capital, which last hosted the Olympic Games in 1924, is up against Los Angeles, Rome, Budapest, and Hamburg with others considering taking the plunge before the IOC September 15 deadline.
