During a time when many artistic forms have been making attempts to accommodate the latest aesthetic trends, dance, a traditional art which combines many different schools, has been no exception. Looking to push the art form forward, from October 4 to 11 the 2015 Creative Dance Seminar was held at Beijing Normal University (BNU) where it gathered dancers from art colleges in six countries and regions including the US, UK and Australia.
Launched by BNU in 2012, the Creative Dance Seminar has developed into one of the world's most influential platforms that brings international dancers together to interact and share their newest experiments and ideas about dance. Taking the theme "Pure and Transformation" this year, seminars focused on the issue of finding balance between persisting in the purity of dance and adapting to the tastes of today's audiences.
Hundreds of participants performed their latest creations, sharing sharply different perspectives with each other.
Nanette Hassall AM, head of the dance department at the Western Australian Academy of the Performing Arts, expressed his appreciation for the platform.
"Dance is a global language, and dancers are transforming the art to communicate with the world, to incorporate different cultures in the art," he said.
