Senior military officials of China and Malaysia have agreed that the two countries' military ties should be conducive to stability in the South China Sea.
General Fang Fenghui, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with General Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), on Sunday on the sidelines of the Sixth
Xiangshan Forum, a high-level security forum that brings together around 500 defense officials and scholars to discuss Asia-Pacific security cooperation.
Fang pointed out that the PLA is willing to cooperate with the MAF through high-level visits, defense and security consultations, joint military exercises, visits by both sides' naval vessels, personnel training and academic institution exchanges.
Zulkifeli said Malaysia is willing to enhance its cooperation with China in maritime security and counterterrorism operations in addition to making contributions to stability in the South China Sea.
