Hours after the
Paris attacks that took place Friday night in Paris, security checks have been heightened at French borders with Belgium and Switzerland, Xinhua journalists on site reported Saturday.
Shortly after the fatal attacks, French President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency across the country, the first such decision since the World War II.
He also ordered to "close" French borders. However, the Elysee, his presidential office, clarified early Saturday that French President ordered to restore border controls rather than closing borders in the wake of multiple attacks in Paris.
"The President of the Republic (Francois Hollande) decided the immediate restoration of border controls", the Elysee said in a press release issued after an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers.
French metropolitan territory and Corsica is in state of emergency since Saturday morning.
French Interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve just announced that security checks on all trains and flights coming to France will also be heightened.
The Islamic State claimed Saturday morning responsibility for the three explosions and six shootings in a statement issued online.
According to a provisional death toll, at least 128 people were killed, 250 were injured among whom 99 in critical conditions, during three explosions at Stade de France and six shootings, one of which becoming a hostage-taking, in Paris 10th and 11th district.
Till now, no official death toll has been confirmed yet.
