Two militants have been killed when a US pilotless aircraft launched a missile strike in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, the country's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Qari Salim, shadow governor of Taliban in Goshta district, along with one of his associates, were killed after a coalition's pilotless aircraft launched strikes in Bail Lai locality of neighboring Muhmand Dara district on Tuesday," the ministry said in a statement.
With the elimination of the insurgents' leader, peace and stability would be further strengthened in several parts of the province bordering Pakistan, according to the statement.
Earlier on Wednesday, the ministry confirmed losing two army personnel as a result of separate attacks across the country within the last 24 hours.
The Taliban militant group has intensified attacks over the past couple of months as the militant group tries to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the country.
The Taliban has yet to make comments.
