South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed Thursday to cooperate for strong, effective resolutions in the United Nations Security Council over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s nuclear test, Park's office said.

Park and Abe held talks by phone for about 15 minutes to exchange opinions about what the DPRK claimed was its first successful test of a hydrogen bomb on Wednesday, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

The two leaders agreed to closely cooperate in adopting resolutions, which include strong and effective measures, rapidly in the UN Security Council from the perspective that Pyongyang should pay a corresponding price for its nuclear test.

They shared views that the DPRK's nuke test posed a great threat to stability on the Korean peninsula and in the region as well as in the world, sharing the need for close cooperation with the United States, China and Russia.

Park and Abe agreed that cooperation between relevant countries in the region will be more important in dealing with the DPRK's nuclear issue down the road, according to Cheong Wa Dae.
