Biographical western The Revenant was the biggest winner at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday.

The film won a total of three heavyweight awards, Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director, while The Martian followed with two similar wins: Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Romantic drama Carol and action film Mad Max: Fury Road, a film whose fans had high hopes for Golden Globe glory, came away empty-handed.

While only a few of the award-winning or nominated film and TV works have made their way to the Chinese mainland, that doesn't mean Chinese audiences weren't rooting for their favorite actors and actresses. Leonardo DiCaprio, for example, quickly became a huge topic of discussion online after his win.

Also grabbing attention in China were Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Lady Gaga and Quentin Tarantino.

"The Golden Globes are boring. The only interesting part is that Little Ma (Damon) and Little Li (DiCaprio), both earned a best actor win," Mo A Ma, a Chinese netizen, wrote shortly after the ceremony.

This was the 11th time DiCaprio was nominated for a Golden Globe and the third time he has taken one home. Last year, he also won the award for best actor in a musical or comedy for The Wolf of Wall Street.

Forever thinking of DiCaprio as "Jack" from Titanic, many Chinese fans exploded with glee when Kate "Rose"  Winslet was seen giving the best actor a hug.

Yet before DiCaprio grabbed all the attention, Lady Gaga's win for best actress in "a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television" was the biggest news.

Her first acting role and her first nomination, singer Lady Gaga's award for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel was a pleasant surprise for her fans in China.

Actually her fans were already surprised when their beloved Lady Gaga showed up on the red carpet in a rather conventional dress, instead of one of the outrageous costumes for which she is known.

Due to its party-like atmosphere, the Golden Globes are often a much more relaxed gathering for the US entertainment industry. As the stars cheered, joked and made amusing faces, Chinese audiences shared in these moments as well.

"Another Golden Globe for Little Li," netizen Bismarck_Drei posted on Sina Weibo shortly after the award ceremony.

"I don't know whether having three Golden Globes is enough to summon a golden [Oscar] statue," he wrote making a commonly used reference to Dragon Ball, a manga in which characters can collect seven magical balls to summon a dragon who will grant their wish.

Since DiCaprio has been nominated at the Academy Awards four times yet still has not a single win to his name, many of the actor's fans in China feel sorry for the actor.

Known as the "King of Facial Expressions" in China, pictures of DiCaprio reacting to events are often shared on the Chinese Internet. Fans were not disappointed by the actor on Sunday as his exaggerated reaction after Lady Gaga bumped into his chair on her way to accept her award has also gone viral on the Chinese Internet.
