An official from China’s Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil confirmed that employees of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei were robbed at gun point in Rio, Brazil on March 9 (local time).
Nobody was injured, but the loss of property was huge, according to Bai Chunhui, commercial counselor of China’s Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bai also noted that the case has been reported to the local police, and the Consulate General is gathering more information and will soon make representations to the Brazil side.
According to an informed source, the attack happened at 12:50 pm on March 9 (local time) in Rio when the employees of Huawei Technologies Co just entered the dining hall at Botafogo. About six or seven gangsters arrived with guns and took all of the valuables from more than 40 employees, including mobile phones and jewelry. Victims told the police that the GPS service of the robbed phones shows they are in a slum.
