A teenage volleyball player is accused of secretly giving birth during a national tourney and abandoning the newborn outside the stadium, only to return to play in the game.

Doctors treating the mother and baby girl said both are healthy and in stable condition, radio news show Voice of Zhejiang reported.

A resident surnamed Ma found the newborn infant ditched in a grassy area next to Changxing Sports Center, where the ongoing National Under-18 Volleyball Tournament was being held.

"I noticed a trail of blood on the ground," said Ma, which led him to the discovery.

"I then followed another trail [to the stadium] … and saw one of the volleyball players with blood an her shoes." "She was playing like nothing had happened," he added.

Local doctors were called to the scene and the two were transferred to a local hospital.

It is unclear whether the young woman had told anyone of her pregnancy prior to the game.

Authorities are investigating the case.
