The inmates at a detention house in North China's Tianjin Municipality were able to eat special food and cake on their birthdays in addition to receiving the necessities for basic living conditions, the Tianjin Daily reported on Thursday.
Wang Yun and Li Shuyun, two people accused of subverting State power, have received birthday cakes and traditional long noodles, Huang Bin, the head of Tianjin No.1 Detention House, said in an interview with the newspaper.
Huang added the detention house had attached importance to all detainees linked to this case including Zhou Shifeng, Hu Shigen, Zhai Yanmin and Gou Hongguo.
The house has given them health examinations every six months since their arrival, Huang said.
Individuals received special medical treatments based on their own documents.
"Hu happened to have congestive heart failure earlier and had difficulty breathing," Huang said. "We had him hospitalized and sent a nurse to care for him during the Spring Festival."
Huang also told the newspaper that they stayed in air-conditioned rooms.
Hu pled guilty to the crime of subverting State power on Wednesday and received a sentence of seven and a half years in prison, previous reports said.
