Team Italy turned out to be the biggiest winner in Rio Olympic Shooting Center on Sunday after winning medals on men' s 10m air rifle and men' s trap.
Niccolo Campriani survived a close final competition to claim the men's 10m air rifle with a score of 206.1 points.
Campriani, the silver medalist of the same event in London four years ago, went one better after he produced the best performance in the qualifying as well as the final. The 28-year-old will be seeking to defend his title of the men's 50m rifle three positions.
Serhiy Kulish from Ukraine won the silver with 204.6 points. Russian shooter Vladimir Maslennikov took home the bronze with 184.2 points.
"For me, shooting in the finals is not about taking the best shot, but not making any big mistakes," said Campriani about the final.
Two big names failed to qualify for the finals. London 2012 champion Alin George Moldoveanu misfired badly in qualifying to miss out on the title defence, while World No.1 Cao Yifei of China finished ninth after dropping several places on his last shot.
46-year-old Giovanni Pellielo almost won Italy the second shooting gold on Monday when he went into the shoot-off with Croatian Josip Glasnovic on men' s trap' s gold medal contention, but the 4-3 loss brought him a silver instead.
"This is like the 'golden goal' ," said Pellielo.
"I missed only one target, so I got very close to it and things are like this."
Josip Glasnovic took home the gold and Edward Ling from Britain finished with the bronze.
It was the first Olympic gold medal in Glasnovic' s career.
"I shot very well, very concentrated. I gave all the best," he said.
