Functions:The Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China is the ministry responsible for social administrative affairs under the State Council. Its predecessor – The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Central People’s Government – was founded in 1949 and was renamed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in 1954 before it was abolished in 1969. The Ministry of Civil Affairs was established in 1978. The main duties of the Ministry are as follows: formulate development plan and policies for civil affairs; responsible for registration and monitor of social groups, funds, private non-enterprise units; develop disaster response policies, organize and coordinate relief efforts; develop social assistance plans and its policies and standards; responsible for works related to subsistence for urban and rural residents, medical and temporary assistance; formulate social welfare development planning, policies and standards; develop policies for marriage, child adoption, funeral and interment management, and guiding related work. |
