The Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China is a ministry of the State Council which is responsible for legal affairs. Its responsibilities include drawing up guidelines and policies of judicial administration, drafting laws and regulations, formulating department rules, formulating working plans of judicial work and supervising the implementation, guiding the international exchange and cooperation in judicial system, organizing and participating in communication activities organized by UN organizations on crime prevention and other activities in criminal justice fields. The ministry also ensures the maintenance and improvement of China's system of law and justice and its national security. The executive head of the ministry is the Justice Minister. This position is equivalent to attorney general in other countries.
