Owning a fountain pen was a status symbol in the 1950s. Those who had fountain pens were mostly intellectuals from wealthy families. Therefore, fixing their pens could be a lucrative job and respected profession. However, as society progressed, few people have their fountain pens fixed because they had more to choose from in stationery supplies, and fountain pens were no longer a symbol of money and knowledge.
