Due to China's backward economy from 1960-69, hairstyles did not change drastically. China had made great efforts to develop its industry, so working in factories became the most enviable job. Many of the model workers from various sectors emerged, advocating labor and taking pride in their work. To actively engage in the worker-peasant revolution, women barely had time to dress up, so hairstyles with short hair were called "worker hairdo" to make it easier to look after while they worked.
