China's private carmaker BYD Co. Ltd. is reportedly interested in the lightweight auto parts business of Alcoa Inc., a world-known aluminum producer in the US, and both sides will likely have a discussion next week.
Presently, a large number of companies expect to team up with the aluminum tycoon to develop light-duty vehicles, for the sake of more safety, said the Alcoa President and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld.
Mr. Kleinfeld did not reveal more details about the upcoming discussion between Alcoa and BYD, but he pointed out that Mainland China would become one of Alcoa' most important business battlefields with high growth potential.
BYD, headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, south China, will quicken its steps toward the new energy layout in the second half of 2009, and its F3DM (dual-mode) electric vehicle is expected to hit the market this yearned at the earliest.
Actually, the company has cast its eye to the electric vehicle R&D, production, and distribution for a long time.
