Emgrand GE, Geely Photo: Guo Yingguang
The first version of the Emgrand was criticized at last year's Auto Shanghai for looking exactly the same as a Roll-Royce. This year Geely brought their new version of the Emgrand to Beijing, claiming that it's a completely new design. If so, it still looks like one based on the Rolls- Royce Phantom Coupé, especially the phoenix logo. The new Emgrand costs around a million yuan and might be the most expensive car ever made by Chinese manufacturers. Geely is going for the high-end market after their acquisition of Volvo. The company is eager to rebuild its brand image as a luxury car producer and the Emgrand is one of the flagships of that line. From the look of it, though, they'll have to work on innovating their designs to truly stand out against the Western big beasts.
