Strengthened by his training as a harpsichordist, organist, pianist, vocalist, composer, choral conductor, and orchestral conductor, he approaches music as a true researcher, tracking down the original source to get to the emotion and inspiration.

Niquet's orchestra is made up of some of Europe's finest Baroque musicians.

"It is so exciting to find these guys. We give our efforts continually in the research for Baroque music and instruments, and we get back what we want," Niquet said.

Niquet still remembers clearly the first concert of Fireworks and Water Music with Le Concert Spirituel.

"It had been a real breakthrough for our orchestra and the audience, the outcome of 15 years of musical research, a sound that was entirely unique. This is our first visit to China. Music is our very own way of meeting people, and I hope I can meet some interesting Chinese students. I have always been very fond of teaching, and working with young musicians," said Niquet.

"I find the music from their special instruments really intoxicating," said Lin, a Chinese student who is studying art history at New York University and who once attended a performance of Le Concert Spirituel.
