Chapter and verse at the fair

Passionate readers will be treated to a feast of some 150,000 books in Chinese and other languages at the 2010 edition of Shanghai Book Fair, which runs from tomorrow till next Tuesday at the Shanghai Exhibition Center on Yan'an Road Middle.

After six editions, the annual event has become the city's mecca for the published word - more than 470 publishers from around the country and about 420 events will be among the fair's staple offerings, according to its organizer, Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau.

Highlights include the involvement of a brigade of acclaimed authors including Mo Yan, Wang Anyi, Chen Danyan, Liu Liu, An Yiru, Bei La and Guo Jinming, all of whom will be featured in book launches, signings, lectures and forums.

Wu Jinglian, one of the country's most influential economists, will speak at the opening ceremony of the fair.

Expo specials

Echoing the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, this year's book show will be loaded with Expo-related publications and activities, under the banner "I Love Reading, I Love Life - Go With the World Expo."

Wu Zhiqiang, the general planner of the 2010 Expo, will talk about his new book of Expo highlights and special features.
