Street food
Real foodies are prepared to try anything, even if it means eating on a busy street in front of a metro station, and within sight of spluttering buses and motorcycles.
The Xinjiang kebab stand right across from the entrance of Zhenping Station on Line 3, was recently voted the best lamb kebab in Shanghai by users of dianping.com.
This street vendor offers grilled lamb kebab and Xinjiang nang (Uyghur flat bread) in exactly the same way it is served up in the west of China. Xinjiang chefs are famed for their expertise in making use all of the body parts of a lamb. And this mix of fat and lean meat makes the kebab both tender and flavorful. Each lamb kebab costs 2 yuan.
Another recommendation is the plain nang (or nan) bread. It's crispy on the outside with a chewy texture inside and is ideal for using with any dips you may have at home. The Lamb nan has plenty of chopped lamb inside the bread and costs 5 yuan.
