Starting from March 1, special armed police will patrol Shanghai’s Hongqiao and Pudong airports in an effort to secure the safety of the two airports during the Expo.

These police are armed with weapons like firearms and tear gas, and they concentrate on the current police patrols at the terminal buildings. During flight rush hour periods, they also patrol surrounding roads and key areas with dogs.

Major International Airports like Beijing Capital International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, and Singapore Changi Airport all have regular special police patrols. The Shanghai police plan to make it a long-term security measure.
