Drowned cab driver

A 30-year-old taxi driver drowned Wednesday night after driving into a river in a remote village in Pudong District.

The accident occurred around 7 pm.  Rescue forces failed to open the door which was shut due to water pressure. When the car was lifted out of the river over an hour later, the driver was found dead.

“Light is dim along the river at night, not bright enough for a stranger to figure out the road,” said Huang Yongchang, a witness, adding that the accident might have occurred because there is no guardrail and rainy weather.

An officer surnamed Zhou at the Pudong Traffic Police said that they are investigating the cause of the accident, which requires full examination of the wrecked car.

The Shanghai Jinjiang Taxi Company confirmed the fatality their newly-recruited staff member.
