Visitors with small bladders need not panic about finding a public restroom during the Shanghai Expo.
The city will assemble 8,000 new toilets in Shanghai to add to its nearly 3,000 existing public toilets to serve the needs of the projected 400,000 daily visitors coming to the Expo, said Tao Yuan, deputy chief of the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau yesterday.
“We have designed the public restrooms in such a way that visitors will be able to find a public toilet without having to go further than the distance of 500 meters anywhere in Shanghai,” added Tao.
Half of the highly advanced portable toilets will be set up inside the Expo area while the remaining 4,000 will be scattered across the city.
Each public restroom station will contain 100 toilets, with the number of toilets for ladies doubling that of those for men. The facilities will also include dedicated stalls with specially designed toilet seats for infants, senior citizens and people with a disability.
